Women Entries in Indian Army, Indian Air Force & Indian Navy

Women play variety of significant roles in our society. Those days are gone when men were only allowed in Indian Armed Forces. In 1992 the first batch of women was induced in Indian Defence Forces.i As the time is passing by women are now permitted in every field. Recently Government showed a green flag for females to fly a fighter pilot. One day will arrive when women will get equal chances in Defence. So there immense opportunities for women entries in Indian Army, Indian Air Force and Indian Navy.

Females who are thinking to join Indian Armed Forces can get whole information. I have presented each and every details point wise.

Women Entries in Indian Army, Indian Air Force & Indian Navy

INDIAN ARMY

a. UPSC Entry

This is a national level exam where females are eligible for OTA only.

  1. Age Limit: Age limit should be between 19 to 25 years (as per notified in the advertisement)
  2. Educational Qualification: Graduation/Post from a recognized university
  3. Selection Process: There are two stages 1) CDS Written exam 2) SSB Interview
  4. Advt Published: Twice a year (Females are eligible for OTA)

b. NCC Special entry

Women cadets having 2 years service in NCC senior division army and have minimum B grade in C certificate exam. They are only eligible for this entry.

  1. Age Limit: Age limit should be between 19 to 25 years (as per notified in the advertisement)
  2. Educational Qualification: Graduate or appearing in the final year are eligible with minimum 50% aggregate
  3. Advt Published: Vacancies per course are notified by additional directorate general recruiting

c. SSC-Technical Entry

  1. Age Limit: Age limit should be between 20 to 27 years (as per notified in the advertisement)
  2. Educational Qualification: Graduate in any discipline of engineering or last year students can also apply (as per notified in the advertisement)

d. JAG entry

  1. Age Limit: Age limit should be between 20 to 27 years (as per notified in the advertisement)
  2. Educational Qualification: Graduation in LLB/LLM with minimum 55% candidate should be registered with Bar Council of India or state
  3. Advt Published: April or October

INDIAN AIR FORCE


Women who are aiming to fly in the sky or dreaming to be an officer in Indian Air Force. They can check all the type of women entries in Indian Air Force with full details. IAF conducts their separate exam “AFCAT” (Air Force Common Admission Test) in all over India. Let’s discuss how females can get entry in Indian Air Force as an officer

There are two entries 1) AFCAT entry 2) Non-AFCAT entry

Let’s First discuss about AFCAT entry:

(i) AFCAT Entry

There are three branches which lie under AFCAT exam: 1) Flying 2) Ground 3) Technical

a. Flying Branch

  1. Age Limit: Age limit should be between 19 to 23 years (as per notified in the advertisement)
  2. Educational Qualification: Graduation from a authorized university with minimum 60% marks. Also it essential that 10+2 must be completed with Maths & Physics “OR” B.E/B.Tech degree from a recognized university with aggregate of minimum 60% marks
  3. Selection Process: There are two selection procedures: 1) AFCAT Written Exam 2) SSB Interview
  4. Advt Published: Twice a year (December and June)

b. Technical Branch

Women engineering students can apply for these two services in Technical Branch of IAF. So let’s discuss them separately

Aeronautical Engineer (Mechanical):

  1. Age Limit: Age limit should be between 18 to 28 years (as per notified in the advertisement)
  2. Educational Qualification: Four year degree course from a recognized university with aggregate of minimum 60% marks and qualification in at least eight subjects out of eighteen as per notified in the advertisement OR cleared Section A and B exam of Associate membership of Institution of engineers or Aeronautical society of India in regular courses

Aeronautical Engineer (Electrical):

  1. Age Limit: Age limit should be between 18 to 28 years (as per notified in the advertisement)
  2. Educational Qualification: Minimum year degree course from a recognized university with aggregate of minimum 60% marks and qualification in at least eight subjects as per notified in the advertisement OR cleared Section A and B exam of Associate membership of Institution of engineers or Aeronautical society of India or graduate membership exam of the Institute of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers in regular courses

c. Ground Duty Branches

Candidates can set up their career as Ground Duty Officer. There are different age limit and educational qualifications for this branch. I will first discuss about their age limits and then jump to educational qualification

Age Limit

  1. For Graduates: Candidate’s age limit must be 20 to 23 years
  2. For Post Graduates: Candidate’s age limit must be 20 to 25 years

There are three kind of services in Ground Duty Branch

  1. Administration and Logistics: Graduate or Post Graduate from a recognized university. Minimum 60% marks are required
  2. Education: Post Graduate degree with aggregate of minimum 50% marks
  3. Accounts: Graduate degree in commerce with aggregate of minimum 60% marks OR a Post Graduate degree/ diploma in Commerce (M Com) / CA / ICWA with aggregate of minimum 50% marks

(ii) Non-AFCAT Entry:

a. Meteorology Branch 

  1. Age Limit: For Post graduate: 20 to 26 years and For PhD: 27 years
  2. Educational Qualification: Post Graduate Degree in any Science stream with minimum 55%
  • Mathematics
  • Computer Applications Statistics
  •  Geography
  • Applied Physics
  • Environmental Science
  • Agricultural Meteorology
  • Meteorology
  • Oceanography
  • Ecology & Environment
  • Geophysics
  • Environmental Biology

     3. Selection Procedures:

    1. Stage-1 Intelligence Test
    2. Stage-2 Psychological Test

INDIAN NAVY

Women candidates can make their career in two branches of 1) Executive Branch and 2) Engineering Branch. Let’s discuss them separately

1) Executive branch

a) SSC- Air Traffic Controller

      • Age Limit: The minimum age limit must be 19 ½ to 25 years
      • Educational Qualification: Graduation in science stream i.e. i.e. Physics/Maths/Electronics OR M.Sc with Maths / Physics /Electronics

b) SSC- Observer

      • Age Limit: The minimum age limit must be 19 to 23 years
      • Educational Qualification: Graduate degree in any discipline with minimum 55% marks with Maths and Physics at 10+2 level.

c) SC- Law

      • Age Limit: The minimum age limit must be 19 to 23 years
      • Educational Qualification: Graduate degree in LAW with minimum 55% marks

d) SSC- Logistics

      • Age Limit: The minimum age limit must be 19 ½ to 25 years
      • Educational Qualification: B.E/B.Tech in Computers, IT, Architecture, Civil, Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Marine engineering OR graduate with PG diploma in material management

2) Engineering branch

a) UES SSC  (Naval Architecture)

      • Age Limit: 19 to 25 years as per notified in the advertisement
      • Educational Qualification: B.E/B.Tech degree in naval architecture / Mechanical / Civil / Aeronautical / Metallurgical / Aerospace engineering with 60% marks

b) SSC Naval Architecture 

      • Age Limit: 21 to 25 years as per notified in the advertisement
      • Educational Qualification: B.E/B.Tech degree in Naval architecture / Mechanical / Civil / Aeronautical / Metallurgical / Aerospace engineering with 60% marks

c) Education Branch

      • Age Limit: 21 to 25 years
      • Educational Qualification: B.E/B.Tech in Computer Science, IT, Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical OR M.Sc in Physics / Maths / Computer application with atleast 50% marks
